Who has two thumbs and is going to see the Mountain Goats with his best friend tomorrow night?
This guy, of course.
I love the build up of out of control excitement that I get whenever a show is coming up and it’s for a band that I love and have incidentally never seen live before. I’m so stoked to head out to the Social tomorrow night and have my face rocked off by endless waves of sing-songy melancholic diatribes; it is definitely going to be incredible.
On this occasion I have thanks to give to my friend until the end of days, Jess, for making tomorrow night possible. Early birthday presents, ftw~
In celebration, here is something that John Darnielle designed with illustrator, Jeffrey Lewis as sort of a comic book press kit to promote their 2008 release, “Heretic Pride”. I love when artists go the extra mile to make the physical release of an album even more special by ways of including concept art or linear notes. As I’ve always been one to love having lyrics explained to me, these 13 pieces of art detailing the vignettes of the record are a huge treat for me. I would have loved to receive these with the actual physical copy of the record upon release. To view the originals in their full size, head on over to www.thejeffreylewiswebsite.com
To my friends in Tallahassee who will be beside themselves with joy over seeing them tonight, here’s to hoping they play “Tallahassee” in its entirety because, well, who wouldn’t love the shit out of that? I hope we get half the show that you guys do if that’s the case.
