Late Night Jam

Refused-“New Noise”

One does not simply begin to talk about post-hardcore without mentioning the Swedish beasts known as Refused. They came a bit late to the party, but dared to shatter the genre with their brand of abrasive hooks, bucking rhythms, and jazz-laden textures and viciously pushed the limits further than most of their American counterparts. Their second album, The Shape of Punk to Come, has been named one of the most influential in post-hardcore by not just magazines, but music historians and has even received a few snazzy reissues over the barren years of their absence. Let’s not forget that the pre-chorus from Paramore’s “Born For This” was lifted from “Liberation Frequency” (We always knew you guys had good taste). After a fourteen year breakup that was as acrimonious as it was sworn to never happen again, they thankfully saw their reunion alongside their peers At The Drive-In at Coachella this past April.

It seems strange that a band that has been around since ‘91, has yet to perform on television, but even more bizarre is that their first go at it is on Jimmy Fallon. If you have been dying to see Refused take to a stage throughout the past couple of decades, then you have to check out this explosive performance of “New Music” that they put on a few hours ago. The track can be found of off their album The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts. Check it out now if you haven’t: it will change your life.

-Kickass Cover of the Day: Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Fallon-“Sexy and I Know It”-

Even if you’re not a fan of LMFAO, this video is well worth the watch just because you get to hear Bruce sing “I’m in a speedo trying to tan my cheeks”. Definitely worth a few minutes of your time.
